Frequently Asked Questions
-
No. We do not offer consultation calls because we do not believe a person's needs, goals, or clinical concerns can be adequately assessed in a brief 15-minute conversation. Meaningful treatment begins with a thorough understanding of the whole person, which cannot be achieved during a short phone call.
Instead, we encourage prospective clients to schedule an initial appointment with one of our therapists. During this session, your therapist will complete a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment to better understand your history, current concerns, strengths, and treatment goals. Following the intake, both you and your therapist can determine whether it feels like a good fit to continue working together.
-
Yes. Lotus Psychotherapy and The Refuge offer services for adolescents and teens. Our clinicians work with young people experiencing anxiety, depression, behavioral concerns, school-related stress, family challenges, trauma, and substance use concerns.
-
The Refuge is Lotus Psychotherapy's intensive outpatient program (IOP) offering specialized tracks for substance use disorders (SUD IOP), mental health concerns (Mental Health IOP), and adolescents and teens (Adolescent IOP). These programs are designed for individuals who need a higher level of support than traditional outpatient therapy while maintaining their daily responsibilities at home, school, or work. To get started, contact our office to schedule an assessment. Our clinical team will determine whether The Refuge is the appropriate level of care and guide you through the admission process.
-
Yes. Our psychiatric providers offer medication management services in person in Annapolis or virtually throughout Maryland as part of a comprehensive treatment approach. Medication management can be provided alongside therapy or as a standalone service when clinically appropriate. We also offer injectable medications when clinically appropriate.
-
Do I have to receive all of my mental health services through Lotus Psychotherapy?
No. While many clients choose to receive multiple services through Lotus Psychotherapy for convenience and continuity of care, you are not required to receive all of your mental health services through our practice.
For example, you may see a therapist at Lotus while receiving medication management elsewhere, or participate in The Refuge while maintaining relationships with outside providers. Our team is committed to collaborating with other healthcare professionals when appropriate and with your written consent.
Our goal is to support you in accessing the care that best meets your needs, whether that care is provided entirely within Lotus Psychotherapy or as part of a broader treatment team.
-
We provide a range of mental health services including individual therapy, medication management, EMDR therapy, Somatic Yoga Therapy, substance use disorder treatment, and intensive outpatient programming (IOP) for adults and teens through The Refuge. Our goal is to offer integrated care that evolves with your needs.
-
What makes Lotus Psychotherapy and The Refuge different from other therapy practices?
At Lotus Psychotherapy, we believe mental health care should be compassionate, accessible, and tailored to the whole person—not just a diagnosis. Unlike many practices that offer only one type of service, we provide an integrated continuum of care that includes individual therapy, psychiatric medication management, EMDR, somatic approaches, substance use treatment, and Intensive Outpatient Programs through The Refuge.
Our team takes a thoughtful approach to matching clients with providers based on their goals, preferences, and clinical needs. We prioritize building genuine therapeutic relationships and creating an environment where clients feel seen, respected, and supported throughout their healing journey.
The Refuge extends this philosophy by offering specialized Intensive Outpatient Programs for mental health, substance use, and adolescents. As part of the Lotus family of services, clients can access higher levels of care without losing the sense of connection and continuity that is often missing when transitioning between providers or programs.
We are also committed to making high-quality care more accessible by accepting many insurance plans, allowing more individuals and families to receive comprehensive mental health support without sacrificing quality or personalization.
-
Lotus Psychotherapy accepts many major insurance plans to help make quality mental health care more accessible. Insurance participation may vary by provider and service. Please contact our office for the most current list of accepted insurance plans and benefits verification.
-
Yes. We offer secure telehealth appointments for individual therapy, family therapy, and medication management services, allowing Maryland residents to access care from the comfort of their homes. Availability may vary based on provider, service type, and clinical needs.

You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Many people seek therapy for stress, anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, life transitions, substance use challenges, trauma recovery, or personal growth. If you're wondering whether therapy could help, scheduling an initial appointment is a great place to start.
-
Getting started is simple. Contact our office by phone or through our website to begin the intake process. Our team will guide you through the next steps, answer any questions, verify insurance benefits, and help connect you with a provider who best fits your needs. At this time, individual therapy appointments are scheduled from a waitlist. The timing of scheduling depends on several factors, including your therapeutic goals, availability, and whether you prefer in-person or virtual appointments.
