Recovery & Regulation IOP

Targeting and regulating compulsive and addictive behaviors.

It may look different on the outside.
The pattern underneath can feel very similar.

Alcohol. Gambling. Food. Sex. Screens. Work. Relationships.

The behavior itself may be different, but compulsive patterns can have something important in common: they can become ways of coping, escaping, soothing, seeking reward, or managing uncomfortable emotions.

Over time, what once provided relief can start to feel less like a choice.

Recovery & Regulation focuses on understanding that pattern.

We shift the question from:

“What are you addicted to?”

to:

“What has your nervous system learned to rely on—and what can we build in its place?”

Our goal isn't simply to remove a behavior. It's to help you better understand your patterns, strengthen your ability to regulate yourself, and build a life that doesn't depend on the same cycle for relief.

Our Approach

We treat the pattern, not just the behavior.

Treatment helps you understand:

What triggers the pattern

What situations, emotions, thoughts, relationships, or physical states increase the urge to engage in the behavior?

What reward the behavior provides

Does it create relief? Stimulation? Escape? Connection? Control? Numbness?

How the cycle became automatic

We explore habits, triggers, urges, reinforcement, and the patterns that keep the behavior going.

How to regulate without relying on the behavior

You'll practice tools for managing emotions, distress, urges, relationships, and nervous-system activation differently.

What you're building toward

Recovery isn't only about stopping something. It's also about developing identity, connection, purpose, healthy reward, and a life worth protecting.

Evidence-based treatment. Applied to real life.

Recovery & Regulation maintains the clinical foundation of our existing IOP while expanding the lens through which we understand addictive and compulsive behaviors.

Treatment may incorporate:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

  • Motivational Interviewing

  • Relapse prevention

  • Trauma-informed care

  • Internal Family Systems-informed / parts work

  • Polyvagal-informed interventions

  • Psychoeducation

  • Sexuality and relationship-focused work

  • Experiential and skills-based interventions

Different behaviors.
Shared work.

Recovery & Regulation is intentionally designed as a mixed-focus group.

That means you may participate alongside people seeking support for:

  • Alcohol or substance use

  • Gambling

  • Disordered eating behaviors

  • Compulsive sexual behavior

  • Technology or screen use

  • Relationship patterns

  • Work addiction

  • Other compulsive behaviors

At first, those experiences may seem very different.

But group treatment focuses on the patterns that can connect them: urges, reward, avoidance, emotional regulation, shame, relationships, habit formation, relapse, and recovery.

You won't need to have the same behavior as another group member to understand what it's like to feel caught in a pattern that's become hard to control.

The goal is not comparison.

It's learning from one another while doing your own recovery work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Recovery & Regulation IOP right for me?

You don't have to make that decision alone.

Recovery & Regulation may be appropriate when:

  • A substance or behavior feels increasingly difficult to control

  • You've tried to stop or cut back but repeatedly return to the pattern

  • The behavior is affecting relationships, finances, health, work, or daily life

  • Weekly therapy doesn't feel like enough support

  • You want structured treatment while continuing to live at home

  • You're willing to participate in group treatment

  • You want to understand not only how to stop the behavior, but what keeps pulling you back to it

Because everyone's situation is different, participation begins with an assessment.

Our clinical team will talk with you about what you're experiencing, your treatment history, current needs, safety, and goals to determine whether Recovery & Regulation is the right level of care.

If another service or level of care would better meet your needs, we'll discuss that with you.

The behavior may be the part you can see. We want to understand the whole pattern.

If alcohol, substances, gambling, food, sex, screens, relationships, work, or another behavior has started to feel less like a choice, Recovery & Regulation may be able to help.

Build new ways to regulate. Understand the pattern. Strengthen your recovery.
