Laura Wells is a licensed LCSW-C with an area of expertise in Children and Families. She has been working with students in AACPS for 17 years. Laura attended the University of Maryland for both her BSW and MSW.
Laura is sensitive to the unique and individual needs of a family and works to create a treatment plan to support systemic change. Laura particularly enjoys working with those exhibiting Special education needs, behavior challenges, trauma, social/emotional challenges, academic challenges, depression/ anxiety/ADHD and an inability to develop peer relationships.
Modalities used include CBT, Family Systems Model, mindfulness techniques, play therapy, crisis intervention strategies. Child and parent will focus on learning client de-escalation strategies, self-awareness, positive self-esteem, emotional regulation techniques, social skills for friendship development, biofeedback, and self-awareness which often support the whole child in multiple settings. Evidence and research-based interventions are utilized.
Laura has lived in the local area over 55 years and enjoys anything water related, her 5 dogs, and camping. Laura is available for virtual appts on Wednesdays and in person in the office on Bellerive on Thursday evenings. Emergency appts may be available by appointment.
